• BIOGRAPHY

CHAOS ENGINE INDUSTRY is a Los Angeles-based production company founded in 2019 by Ben Hibon, a Swiss-French animation director with over 20 years of experience in the film, advertising and video-game industry.

Ben is best known for directing the Tale of Three Brothers sequence in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, which received an Academy Award nomination in 2010, and most recently directing & producing the Emmy Awards winning animated series Star Trek: Prodigy for Paramount+ and Nickelodeon.

With a strong background in fine art and design, Ben moved to London in 1996 to study at the prestigious Central St-Martins School of Art, where he graduated with a BA(Hons).

In 2004 Ben helped launching Blinkink, the experimental label of Blink Productions, right in the heart of London’s busy Soho. In his time working at Blinkink, Ben directed a number of projects ranging from TV commercials, music videos, game trailers and short films.

In 2006, following the success of two collaborations with infamous Japanese creators Suda 51 and Sakichi Sato, Ben wrote, designed and directed a short film inspired by his love for asian animation. Codehunters was premiered at the MTV Asia Awards 2006 held in Bangkok.

Codehunters won multiple awards around the world and toured the festival circuit for many years. It received nominations at the Raindance Film Festival and The Rushes Shorts. It won a gold award for Best Animation at Promax/BDA Asia Awards, the Imagina Award for best short film, a D&AD Nomination and took home the Golden Nica Award at the Prix Ars Electronica.

Ben's highly visual and narrative work in commercials and video games opened up opportunities in Hollywood. With the support of the prestigious talent agency WME, Ben met with Harry Potter producer David Heyman and director David Yates in 2010. Ben was commissioned to design and direct the-now-infamous scene of The Tale of Three Brothers, who received global acclaim from the fans and an Academy Award nomination for Best VFX.

Working with Yates on Harry Potter proven to be a successful experience, and Ben went on to collaborate with other Hollywood filmmakers, most notably with Tarsem Singh on Mirror Mirror and Zack Snyder on Suckerpunch.

Developing a close relationship with feature directors and Hollywood studios since 2010, Ben's work extended to production design on projects such as Rupert Sanders's Snow White and The Huntsman, Breck Eisner's The Last Witch Hunter and Nikolaj Arcel’s The Dark Tower.

Ben has also established himself as a go-to director in the video game industry, creating films for AAA titles such as Microsoft's Fable Legends, SEGA’s Alien Isolation, Activision's Call of Duty or Riot Games's League of Legends and Legends of Runeterra.

Since 2015, Ben has been taking leadership roles as EP, ECD and CD at various VFX and Animation Studios, to consult and develop internal ressources, as well as sourcing and producing original content.

Between 2019 and 2023, Ben joined creators Kevin & Dan Hageman as an EP, series director and creative lead to produce a full CG animated Star Trek series for Paramount, CBS and Nickelodeon. The show won an Emmy Award for Best Production Design and a nomination for Outstanding Animated Series in 2022. Star Trek: Prodigy’s 2 seasons / 40 episodes are streaming now on Netflix.

Over the years, Ben's work has been recognized by the Academy Of Motion Picture, D&AD, Imagina, Promax, British Animation Awards, Creative Circle, OFFF, Flash Forward Festival/NY and shown at festivals such as Raindance, Rushes Soho Short, onedotzero, Resfest, the Berlin Interfilm Festival, the Edinburg and Stockholm International Film Festivals.

His commercial work includes clients such as Disney, Warner Bros, Lionsgate, New Line, Channel 4, Microsoft, Universal Pictures, Activision, Riot Games, SONY Playstation, Electronic Arts, MTV Europe, MTV Asia, Sega, Puma, Capcom or Nissan.

    Ben is represented by UTA.
